East African Steam Rail Safari
We visited East Africa in October 2005 on
the RTC East
African Steam Safari. As its name suggests it was primarily
a steam rail experience but the places it visited and the
mixture of tours it provided meant that people of all interests
enjoyed it.
It depended upon restored steam locomotives
and, as with all machines of their age, they tended to be
temperamental. As far as I was concerned this only added to
the magic of the trip. I lift my hat to all those who had
obviously spent so much time reviving these monsters under
less than optimal conditions - keep it up gents. I also complement
Kenya and Tanzania Rail for their support for this venture
and hope that they are able to continue them.
You can see more about EA railways here.
Details of the trip are reported elsewhere
so though the library of photographs I provide are "steam
rich" they err on the side of family interest - I hope
you enjoy them (through the icon below).
